VPN PPTP routing issue

S

Szigethi, Zoltán

Hi all,

I have a Windows2003 network with two sites connected via VPN (PPTP). The
two sites use different IP subnets. From site A the machines at Site B looks
perfect.
From Site B the router box sees everything at Site A, BUT the clients behind
the router box at Site B does not see machines at Site A. They get the IP
addresses of machines at Site A, but even ping does not work.
The two router config seems identical.
What can be wrong with the config?

Thanks for the help.

Zoltan

If you are using the router to router VPN setup, the site to site routing
depends on the static routes which are linked to the demand dial interfaces.
For routing between sites to work, the subnet route must be added to the
routing table of both routers when the connection is active.

First check that you actually connect to the demand dial interface at
the aswering router (ie check that the interface changes to "connected").
The static route should automatically be added to the routing table when the
interface connects.

When it connects properly, each router has a route to the "other" site
through the VPN. The sites then route through the connection.
