VPN over internet and through private network

I'm having trouble connecting to my computer at work.
Here's what I know.

My Ip address on the lan = 192.168.1.104
The subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
The gatway = 192.168.1.1
And I have the internet IP address.

How do I find my machine? Can I connect directly to it or
do I have to connect to the box that's connected to the net
first? I'm sure this is probally the most basic question,
but I couldn't find any information on it. Maybe I'm not
searching with the right phrase? Any help, even just
telling me what to look for or where to find the answer
would be appreacated. Thanks.

Talk to your administrator, He'll give you the external IP to connect to.

And if there is no "admin" to speak to? My work (car sales)
typically uses me as a tech. They pay someone by the hour
if something goes wrong.
