Confuguring a network device

Small LAN from seven PCs, connected to switch, and switch connected to ADSL
router, static IP address from ISP.
I want configure VoIP adapter (one WAN port and 2 FXS) in order to upgrade
to latest firmware. The firmware obtainable from manufacturer's website.
Problem is I canno find an actual IP address of device. I connected it to
LAN instead of one PC, but can no access to device since it not shown in
network
So I assume device have some static ip address. In user manual specified few
steps, here:

Quick Start
How to set your network environment?
SR-100/SR-200 default network environment:
For Wan:
IP: 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.254

How to configure SR-100/SR-200?
1. Configure your PC or NB to the same subnet with SR-100/SR-200.
2. Use web browser (IE/Firefox) link to url: http://192.168.1.1
3. Login user name: admin
4. Login password: admin
5. Use this web configuration interface to configure all system
functionality; firstly you should
change the WAN network environment to yours

I tried to configure by connecting device to LAN (instead of one of PC),
then setting mine pc to specified Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0 , but can no
connect to web interface via http://192.168.1.1
My subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 Also my ADSL router didn't show any
additional device connected to LAN. I can assume there is error in user
manual.

From other hand, manufacturer say I just need connect device to Switch
(without changing subnet mask?), set SR200 with some unused IP address, then
to connect to this address from web browser.

Thanks.

The user manual for the Soundwin SR200 isn't available on the Internet
(you have to email the company), so I can only guess from the data sheet.

As I understand the datasheet, the SR200 can be a "PPPoE client, DHCP
client, [or] Fix[ed] IP Address." Which of these modes you use depends
on how you will connect the device. If you connect it to a DSL modem
that is not also a router, you will probably want to use PPPoE mode. If
you connect it to a router (whether the router is a stand-alone device
or part of your DSL "modem"), you will probably want to use DHCP mode.

From your description, it sounds as if the default for the SR200 is to
be in static IP mode, with IP address = 192.168.1.1 and subnet mask =
255.255.255.0. If this is correct, then you can access it in one of two
ways:

1. *Disconnect* your switch from your router. Then connect the SR200 to
an available port on the switch.

2. On one of your computers, go to Network Connections, right click on
the icon for "Local Area Connection" and select "Properties." Under the
heading "This connection uses the following items," select "Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click "Properties." On the "General" tab, click
the radio button to "Use the following IP address" and enter an IP
address of 192.168.1.100 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. You can
leave the Default gateway blank. OK your way out.

3. Follow steps 2-5 that you listed under "How to configure SR-100/SR-200?"

4. When you are finished, don't forget to go back and reset your
computer's Local Area Connection to "Obtain an IP address Automatically."

Alternatively, instead of step 1 above, you can disconnect one of your
computers from the switch and connect it directly to the SR200.
Depending on what electronics are installed in the SR200, you may or may
not have to use a special "cross-over" cable instead of the regular
cable that you use to connect the computer to the switch.

Note: The subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 listed under "Quick Start" probably
is a typographical error. It probably should be 255.255.255.0.

Thank you, this really help. My mistake was I set wrong IP adress when
configured TCP/IP properties, also wrong URL when tried to access page.
The IP address need be set from the IP range of the SR200 device
(192.168.1.x), but I used the 192.168.4.x, so it belong to a different
network address range, however.

Thank you,
Trion
