VPN DNS ISSUES

R

Rob

I have a remote user connecting to an MS PPTP VPN. The user can connect to
VPN and ping by IP but it fails to properly resolve host names. It appears to
be using the LAN DNS server instead of the ones specifid in the TCP/IP
properties for VPN.

Why does windows bypass the VPN DNS for the LAN DNS server?

While connected to VPN I can:
-ping the VPN DNS servers.
-nslookup any host name on the VPN Network while nslookup is pointed at the
VPN DNS IP.

I've tried the following.

Removal of NIC, Updated NIC drivers, Rejoined seat to domain, reset TCP/IP
via (netsh), rebuilt VPN connection.

Can anyone help with this? I'd hate to start over with a clean install of
windows but i'm running out of options.

Thanks-Rob

This is a good question. You may try to modify the connection bindings. This
post may help.
Fixed: Vista VPN name resolution issue
Note: Before modifying the registry key, ensure the binding order is
correctly configured on the VPN client: a. Please open Control Panel ->
