VPN connection without internet access

I am a system admin and have made a VPN connection into my work network.
Whenever I make the connection I don’t have any internet access. My home
computer has a cable internet connection with all IP\DNS etc set as
automatic, although I know this is not relevant.

My Internet Explorer proxy setting for this VPN connection is my proxy
address at work (written as an IP address). I also have ‘Use default gateway
on remote network’ ticked in TCP advanced options for the connection. Have
also tried without this ticked but no luck.

I can’t ping any websites with the VPN connection active.
I can’t ping the proxy address I use at work with the VPN connection active.
I can ping my work default gateway and work DNS server.

Any ideas?

i have had this problem and the only solution was one you
tried....DESELECTING 'Use default gateway on remote network’ . make sure you
reconnect with that setting, not just changing it while you are connected.
