VPN Connects but can't map drives

I am using XP Professional and have a VPN connection to
the corporate server. I am able to connect to the server
but am unable to map the drives. I've used both the
server's name and the IP address while mapping the drives.
My other laptop using 2000 Professional connects
flawlessly.

I have the same problem. The connection seems to be
functioning fine but my machine does not seem to
recognize \\computername, so I can't use it to map a
drive.

Frustrating...

Is there a WINS server on the host lan--i.e. the one with the server on it?

Consider manually configuring the IP of the WINS server in properties of
TCP/IP on the VPN connection at the client end.

If you can connect to the server, it seems your network is OK. Since you
can't connect to the server even with an IP, it means that DNS is not a
problem. Next suspect would be the authentication to access the drives -
do you need to login in a format such as Domain\UserID and then enter your
password?

Please follow-up to the newsgroup.
