VPN client disconnect after 60 seconds.

Within the past few weeks users have started experiencing problems
with VPN connections. It seems that some users consistently get
disconnected after 60 seconds. Other can stay connected for hours and
still other are disconnected after 60 seconds occasionally. The server
is a Windows 2000 SBS with two network adapters. Both adapters are on
the 10.0.0.0 network. We are using a Symantec Firewall for security
and have the services for PPTP opened up and being forwarded to the
server. I originally wanted to have just one adapter, but could not
get the RRAS server to work with just one so I had to add another. I
assigned one adapter 10.0.0.1 and the other 10.0.0.249. When I forward
PPTP requests to the 10.0.0.1 adapter I can connect for more than 60
seconds, but others cannot. When I forward PPTP connections to the
other adapter (10.0.0.249) I get consistently disconnected after 60
seconds. Any ideas would be appreciated. The clients are running
windows 2000 professional.

Hi Lonnie,

Not sure why you have two NICs in the same subnet. If both NICs have a default gateway,
remove the gateway from one of the NICs.
The NICs should be on different subnets. Or if you are going to load balance the NICs, then
configure Network Load Balancing.
