Double Dumbass On You

Until recently, I had my laptop setup with a Linsys 802.11 G wireless NIC
which talked to a wireless router, connected to a cable router and VPN
connection to my work. I only used the VPN to connect to the Exchange
server at work, to do remote desktop stuff, etc. When I did connect to the
VPN, access to the Internet was uninterupted for all of my other
applications. E.g. my Outlook is configured to access both MS Exchange
accounts and internet Email accounts, my Avant browser can still browse,
etc.

Within the last week or so, whenever I connect to the VPN, Internet
connectivity is effectively shut off completely. E.g. all of the Internet
Email accounts in Outlook return errors, Avant can't browse anything, etc.
I have tried reconfiguring everything to no avail.

One thing I noticed, which I hadn't before, is that there is an additional
connection which appears in the Network Connections window called "Internet
Connection" of type "Internet Gateway". When I intially startup the
computer, the wireless-G card connects, the "Internet Connection" shows
"Connected" and all is fine. If I keep the window open and connect to the
VPN, the "Internet Connection" disconnects briefly, then shows "Connected"
again.

What I would ultimately like to see happen is this: When I connect to the
VPN, it only handles traffic for Exchange, F&P Sharing, Remote Desktop but
*NOT* web traffic. Regardless of whether the VPN is connected or not, I
want all http, nntp, etc. traffic to bypass the VPN connection. Is this
possible? If so, how is it acheived? Also, what are some possible reasons
that Internet connectivity is interupted when I connect to the VPN?

Network Connections ---> <your VPN> connection --> Properties --->
Networking ---> Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties ---> Advanced
and uncheck "Use default gateway on remote network"
