VPN and Offline Files Problem

P

Paul

Hi,

I have a couple of users who use adsl/vpn/XP to dial into
our 2003 server.

When they are connected remotely they can see the Offline
files correctly but cannot see the rest of the shares on
the server.

I know this is how the offline files is supposed to work
but surely there must be away to view the rest of the
files without switching off the offline files or
selecting the rest of the shares as offline files.

Any help/advice would be most appreciated

Regards

Paul

I ran into the same issue and was able to resolve the problem by using the
FQDN for the server name as opposed to the NetBIOS name. For example, if
the user profile is configured to using the following format:

\\ServerName\Users\%UserName%

Users will not be able to browse shares located on \\ServerName when working
offline, BUT they CAN browse \\ServerName.CorpDomain.Com without issue.
Seeing as how most users are used to connecting to servers using
\\ServerName as opposed to the FQDN I updated all users profiles with ldifde
to reference the FQDN for their home folders. After making this change
users were able to successfully browse all shares on their home server while
working offline. Hope this helps
