working offline with offline files while VPN still connected?

Hi!

I'm working remotely through VPN and have to be connected in order to
send/receive e-mails with Outlook via Exchange Server.
Some of the synchronized files can't be opened while connected.
Especially Word and Excel-files.So I have to disconnect while working
with those files, but then I can't send/receive in Outlook.

Is there a way to tell Windows XP Pro SP3 to work offline with the
synchronized files even when being connected via VPN?

Many thanks in advance.

Best regards
Thommes

OT, but what version of Exchange & Outlook? If Exchange 2003 or 2007, and
Outlook 2003 or 2007, you can use RPC over HTTP instead of VPN. This is much
more efficient.
