Volume will not adjust in PP2002

When I use a sound file in PP 2002, the volume adjustment
controls in the custom animation menus does not work for
either WAV or MP3 files. No matter how I adjust it, all
of my sounds play at maximum volume. I can adjust the
overall volume of the presentation by using the master
volume controls in WinXP, but this lowers all sounds. I
cannot play one sound (e.g. background) at one volume
while playing a short sound effect at another volume.

Assuming the volume control is supposed to work, and
since there is no artical about this flaw on the
Microsoft website, can anyone tell me how to get the
volume control slider to work in Custom Animation?

You're right--it's supposed to work, but it doesn't.

Only thing I know to do is edit the sound volume in a sound editing
program and reinsert the sound file into PPT.
