Volume icon in task bar

Using Win XP Home with Service Pack 2 and Firefox 1.5. The volume icon in
the task bar will on its own become unmuted. I will mute it and a few
minutes later it will be unmuted. How can I fix this? Thanks

Check of some type of spyware/ malware / trojan. If you XP is doing something
that you do not expect, then check for those things I mentioned before.
