volume controls

new XP installed and the main volume control slides right
back to off when trying to set is so it can be heard. Have
seen quite a few other posts on this with no available
fixes posted

Do you have a volume control icon on your taskbar,

probably next to clock bottom right corner of screen?
If you do, rightclick it and click "Adjust Audio
Properties" and troubleshoot, check if the MUTE button is
NOT checked, also click the Audio tab and Sound Playback
device is set for your sound card/system.
