Volume control still no go,,

have checked all possibilities and restore options but
still cannot get the main volume control knob to adjust,I
can slide it up to where it beeps and is heard over the
speakers,,but it slides right back down to no volume,,all
hardware devices,,speakers etc are all operational,,
anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening and what
can be done to fix it?? thanks for the reply jake,,tried
everything but still a no go,,
