I'm using XP pro. The sound driver software from the built in cmedia sound
chips has changed the volume control to have an obnoxious beep when I move
the slider. I tried every item under the sounds control panel looking to
find that sound but it is not there. Anyone have any idea how to change or
disable the beep in the volume control?

It uses the default beep. So it's means no default beeps anywhere.

So you need to remove the DefaultBeep sound in Sound Options in Control Panel. Then you may need to turn off the Beep On Error setting else it will make a different beep (not a recorded one). This can be turned on/off on in Tweakui's General tab (any version of tweak can do it).
