1. Right-click on the Task Bar and select Properties. If you have
"Hide inactive icons" checked, select "Customize" and check the
list. You'll want the Volume control to be "Always show", or just
uncheck the "Hide inactive..." option.
2. Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel
Double-click on "Sounds & Audio Devices"
Make sure the "Place volume icon in the Task Bar" is checked.
