Need Assistance

My pc seems to have deleted the volume icon. Firstly I had lost my sound then
did a system restore and got the sound back but the volume icon is missing.
I've gone to add/remove programs but requires me to insert my Disk and I seem
to have misplaced it. I need help on how to get my volume back if I dont have
my disk PLEASE! and how do i prevent this from happening in future.

Prreviously my accessories also went missing and i re installed them with
the disk.

Can anyone tell me why do i keep loosing these things am i deleting them
without knowing?

Thanks in advance

To what disk are you referring?

A. If a retail XP install disk, see:

How to Replace Lost, Broken, or Missing Microsoft Software or Hardware -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;326246

B. If a restore disk from an OEM (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.), contact the OEM
and purchase a replacement restore disk. This is usually quite
inexpensive (around $20 and well worth it).

C. If a drivers disk, you can download drivers and install them. See
below for general drivers information:

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor or System Information for Windows.
