Hi steve

Thanks for you reply on the 16/6 I did click on the put volume control in
task bar but when I said ok it came up with an error message saying cannot
perform this task as volume control is not installed. Use Add/Remove to
instal. How do I do this when I don't have a disc. It is not listed in the
Add/Remove panel.

Run Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit (version 7.0t)
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

This will tell you the make and model of the motherboard and the sound
card. If the sound device is built into the motherboard then go to the
motherboard manufacturers web site and down load the sound driver for
your particular motherboard, then install the driver.

If it is a stand alone soundcard, then go to that manufacturers site
and again down load the specific driver for that card.

hi

Thanks for your reply. I ran Belarc and from all the data it gave me I
think I have an American Megatrends motherboard.

This is the infor from the data sheet

System Model
American Megatrends Inc. 1.0

Main Circuit Board
Board: FIC PT-2200 1.0
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. Version 07.00T 04/02/01

I cannot see anything to do with sound cards!!

However I went into American Trends website. I cannot find anything to do
with sound devices. It asked for the motherboard series number which I don't
know. It then went on to tell me how to get it. What a carry on. I tried 5
times to get the numbers from the screen at start up but The American
Megatrend only stays on the screen for a few seconds. I tried holding down
keys, switched off my keyboard but nothing made it stay on the screen longer
than 3 seconds. I am now very frustrated. What can I do now. Apparently
there a AMI motherboards which are true AMI and others with are not I still
don't know which mine is. In the meantime I still don't have volume control.

Please help

Your motherboard is an FIC PT-2200 not an AMI, that is the BIOS
manufacturer.

Look further down the Belarc output, you should see the sound card
under the Multimedia section.

Hi GreenieLeBrun

Thanks for the info. I have listed what it says under the Multimedia
section. I hope you will be able to help from this. I have already
reinstalled Realtek AC'97 Audio in the hope that this would put the volume
control in the task bar but it did not.

ATI WDM Rage Theater Video
ATI WDM Specialized MVD Codec
ATI WDM Teletext Decoder
ATI WDM TV Audio Crossbar
ATI WDM TV Tuner
Realtec AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller

I hope this list is helpful to you.

look forward to your reply

I don't know mentioned FIC motherboard and which chipset it uses.
Maybe you need only a refresh of the audio driver(, maybe for the VIA
chipset if you have one).

FIC has a pages with VIA and Intel drivers, like "Drivers and Utilities
for VIA-based FIC Motherboards" and "FIC Technical Support - Drivers and
Utilities for INTEL-based FIC Motherboards"
http://www.fic.com.tw/support/motherboard/doc/driver_via.aspx
http://www.fic.com.tw/support/motherboard/doc/driver_intel.aspx
maybe you can find what you need there.

VIA has it's own website with drivers
http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2

Hi thanks for your reply

I am getting sooooooooooooo confused. I still don't know if my sound is
operated by my motherboard or on a multi media card.

I have read on another site that I need to re- install sndvol32.exe and that
will fix the problem. The driver guide asks for product device type ie sound
card, motherboard, scanner etc etc. I don't know which one I need.
Motherboard or Sound Card. I now know my motherboard is FIC but what is my
Sound Card.

Someone pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee help.

Thank you

Hi

Just thought I would let you know that I have fixed the problem. I got it
from another site. I had to instal sndvol32.exe to c:\windows\system32. My
volume control icon is now in my task bar.

Thank you for your help anyway. Perhaps others wll be able to benefit from
this thread.
