Volume Control Settings

I have an Creative External USB Sound Card and a Gyration Air Music Remote,
the remote works fine when the sound card is not plugged in, when the sound
card is plugged in the volume down control stops working.

Are there any settings within Windows XP to give the remote priority over
the sound card?
