Does the voice reporter function only through the built-in sound chip or
also to the case speaker?

I've heard some boards use the front speaker port for that, not sure
about that one though. Might want to ask over in one of AMD's AMD64
forums if you don't get an answer here. http://forums.amd.com/

Only the built-in sound chip.

I have a 4.1 speaker system. My K8V voice worked through the speakers and
the sub-woofer.
 
only via the onboard sound, it wont work if your using an aftermarket card,
or not plugged into the Front channel on the onboard.
