Voice Recognition

Every time I open a Microsoft application I trigger the
voice recognition program that wants me to train it. How
can I turn it off? Sometimes it locks up my computer for
5 to 10 minutes and will not take no as an answer.
I would really appreciate any help you can give. I have
looked all over for the program to turn it off.

Voice recognition is not a standard part of XP which only includes text to
speech capability. Voice recognition on your system was installed by Office
or some other program or utility. Or perhaps you have a different version
of WinXP as the Tablet Edition does have voice recognition.

If you do not plan on using voice recognition until sometime in the future,
disable it. Here's an article about the VR installed by Office XP. It

You did not state which voice recognition program/application you have on your PC
Suggest when you get the prompt to "train" it, press an install later, or do not trai
button. Then either delete the program if you don't want it. It may be listed in
Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs. It may also be listed in Startup
To delete it there, go to: Start/Run/type MSCONFIG press Enter, then click the Startup tab
Uncheck/disable it there/click Apply and OK. Good luck!
