My system log says that the service VNL1394 was not able
to run up. I have neither found this service on my system
nor any information on the web. Does anyone know about
that?
(Windows 2000 Server with latest SP/patches)

Thanks in advance!

This "service" is not a part of Windows.
Services store there configuration info in the registry in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
- There will be a path to the service .exe
- You should get a better idea of what this VNL1394 by poking around here

What I think is likely is that this is some kind of spyware. I would search
the hard disk for files with VNL1394 in the filename, and for files
containing the text "VNL1394".
- Also, check the Run registry keys:
Q137367: Definition of the RunOnce Keys in the Registry
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=137367
- And of course, scan with Adaware, Spybot, or your favourite removal tool

Jason,

many thanks. Now I could locate the related registry
settings and the allocated files. They are probably a
part of a trial program (PC-DUO) that I had installed
before and which was not been completely deinstalled.

Thanks again.
