VMware on Win XP for Win 98

Currently my system is dual boot, 98 and XP, most of the time I use XP
but there is one program that will not run on XP (security protected
and it would cost me several hundred $ to reactivate it on XP)
It is a pain if I work in XP, and someone calls me to get information
from me that is on Win 98 program. I end up rebooting computer seveal
times a day.
Is there a program that would allow me to run Win 98 within XP. I know
that VMware does that, but it creates its own container and one can
install 98 within it. I am looking for a program that would use
existing Win98 install and run it within XP.

Thanks

you would need to make an "image" of the existing windows 98 installation
and then clone it inside vmware, then after the vmware trial ends you can
use
the free vmware player forever. http://www.vmware.com/products/player/

an imaging application that I like is acronis true image,
http://www.acronis.com/ but there are others.....

follow these steps:
1) use a disk imaging application (like acronis true image) to make your
windows 98 parition into an image
or in otherwords a big file. You can do this while running xp.
2) boot vmware with the cd of the imaging software (the acronis true image
lets you make a bootable cd)
and then you select it to restore an image of a disk, and you locate the
image of win98 that you made previously
3)the win98 is restored inside vmware, you now can use win98 at the same
time winXP
4) you keep the virtual disk that vmware made and run it with the free
vmware player after the vmware trial ends.

also

are you sure the win98 application does not work with XP's compatibility
mode?
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/appcompat.mspx
http://www.theeldergeek.com/use_compatibility_mode.htm

I have not seen many apps that dont run on XP. Perhps this uses Dos in some
way?
If that is so then there are dos emulators...

in any case if you need any help post back

Thanks PA, but I already thought of that before I decided to have
dual-boot, there is a space issue in this office so that is why I went
with dual-boot

Run win98 on a *separate* PC, get a KVM switch for your monitor and kbd.
Presto, your headache gone forever.
