visual basic .net resource kit

I was wondering if anybody has installed the free
visual basic .net resource kit from Microsoft. I ordered
the cd from Microsoft and Last night I went to install
it, and when I clicked on install, my Norton antivirus
displayed a message that the computer had been shut down
because the software contained a malicious script and it
recommended canceling the install which I did. I tried
installing it again with the same results. I also
reinstalling another program from a cd and it worked
fine. Has anybody had this problem, and if so were you
able to fix it.

Thanks.

Dave Pursey.

Yep,
Been there done that. The problem is with the braindead
Norton software. The standard configuration is setup to
NOT run any vb scripts of any kind. Do this:
In the Norton AntiVirus program there is an Options tab
that you can click on. Click on it. There will be a
Under 'System' or at the top level, there will be a
'Script Blocking' Rule. Double click on it. You can
try to disable it (a check box) that I've found doesn't
work. Or you can set the 'Prompt Me' settings so that
it will ask you what to do (This seems to work).
When you then install the MS product, and a script
is run, Norton will prompt you and you then tell norton
to Allow the script to run (Click on the selection
with 'Allow' in it). I've tried other things like
adding the .vbs file extension to the list of files
that Norton does NOT scan but the product lacks serious
quality control and most of the options and features
in Both NIS2003 and Norton Anti-Virus 2003 appear to
not be fully tested, (at least not on W2k). This is
probably why they sotpped selling NIS2003 (the combined
firewall and virus scanner). About the only good thing
I have to say of Norton is that the virus scanner
and fire wall does block problems from occurring, even
though the feature content doesn't seem to function as
expected. It works, but just barely.
