Vista

Ok...my friend just got a new computer with the Vista operating system on
it....and I got a chance to *play* with it. Now Microsoft said it was a
technological marvel...it had the Wow factor...it was the greatest
achievement since Windows 95. (or they said something like that...) la de da
de da....It was supposed to be *da bomb*!!!! Well as I said, I test drove
the thing and you know what? It wasn't that great to me. I was disappointed!
It was NOTHING like when Windows 95 came along. To me...it was just another
operating system...and frankly...I like XP better. Yeah...Vista indeed!!!!

Dear JSG,

Well, we are stuck with it. Fact. Its a new OS, but its still just version
6 of Windows NT. There are a lot of enhancements under the hood. Then again,
a lot of the internals are still the same. Shell and COM interfaces all over
the place - just like XP. Which is great for Win32/64 programmers and app.
compat.

I run Vista on a new LG Notebook and in a virtual Server ('cos I need to
write programs for it). BUT the UI is too over the top. On this point I
agree with you!!
I can turn off Aero but it drops back to Windows 2000 Shell look! If it
dropped back to XP themes then I would enjoy it more.

Great kernel though. I have Longhorn Server Beta 3 under test (Windows
Server 2007) and its so far so good. But MS left out the POP3 Service! Now I
can't get my mail unless I run Win2003 Server in a VM on Longhorn! ;-)

Anyway. Got that off my chest.
