VISTA/Windows Mail

Windows Mail is not compatible with leading antivirus software Norton and
McAfee! Neither does it support Web based email services, such as MSN's own
Hotmail! Yet Microsoft include it in their Vista Operating System and provide
no means of deselecting it! Customers have to like it or lump it - a great
attitude!
VISTA itself attempts to control what the user wants to do and is more
interferring and less of a "tool" than previous Windows O/S. Obviously,
Microsoft is going downhill if this is what it offers its customers!
I wonder if Microsoft would care to refund me for this rubbish called VISTA?

I have just replied to your previous post, so you might take a look. About
Norton and McAfee, they can hardly be considered "leading antivirus
software". If you use Norton or McAfee I would strongly reccomend swiching
to Kaspersky or NOD32. They work great with Windows Mail and are superior to
Norton or McAfee.

Just my 0,02 $

Just so long as you don't pay for them.

The vast majority of home users have no need for paid-for security software.
Windows Firewall and Defender (anti spyware) are fine.
All you need on top of Vista is a free antivirus suite such as Avast or AVG.

LOL... what a loon!
!
As though ANY software should be written to be compatible
with either of those POS. You're putting the cart before the horse.

Bullshit.

Idiot.

VISTA itself attempts to control what the user wants to do and is more
interferring and less of a "tool" than previous Windows O/S.

Vista tries to help users, most of them non technical,
running dodgy software by accident.
That facility can be disabled.
Microsoft is going downhill if this is what it offers its customers!

Ask them, you imbecile.

I did look at your reply to my previous post. However, it misses two points:
1. I do not want my mail organised by ANY programme, be it Outlook, Windows
Mail or Windows Live Mail - I have managed very well for years with direct
access to my Hotmail account and I do not wish to be forced to use something
else! Is a computer a tool to assist me, or designed to control me?
2. When I am on Websites with contact details and I click on their email,
previously I could fill in their email form and send it. Now, Windows Mail
wants to butt in and take over, but won't accept my Hotmail account. Being
able to click Windows Live Mail or any other Mail organising programme does
not help me in these circumstance.
Also, Whilst you may consider other Antivirus Programmes better, I have used
NOrton for years and never been "hit", so I am quite happy with it. Is this
another example of being forced to use what others want and not what I want?
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO CHOICE???

Choice is still with us. If you don't want to use Windows Mail, then the
choice is not use Windows Vista. But every OS comes with a mail program...

Regarding your problem, I don't know a way removing/disabling Windows Mail.
Maybe disabling all default actions under Default Program for Windows Mail
could work.

About Norton antivirus. You are putting the cart before the horses. Norton
or any other antivirus program is an application. Applications must be
compatible with the OS and not vice versa. Strange enough other antivirus
programs work fine. If Vista was flawed than all antivirus programs
shouldn't work.

One good thing about Norton is that it won't be long
before it stops you emailing.
Hopefully their next upgrade will stop you posting too.

Norton is a time bomb. It can affect any mail client including OE,WM,Eudora etc. It can also affect System Restore and many other things on a OS. It can work for some without issues for a while but it will show it's face eventually.

The Corporate version of Norton does not have this issue. Disabling the email scanning feature of Norton will go a long way in helping any email client run trouble free. This also applies to any other Anti Virus suite.

You are putting the cart in front of the horse.
AV vendors other than McAfee and Norton had no trouble producing
Vista-compatible products.
Neither does it support Web based email services, such as MSN's own
Hotmail!

If you want to use Hotmail as well as POP accounts, switch to Windows
Live Mail. If you have no need for POP accounts and want to use only
web access to Hotmail, use this patch:
