Vista will not boot after changing monitor

Fresh install on Vista Premium. Loaded fine. Original monitor was an Acer
analog lcd. A week after install, I replaced this with a Viewsonic digital
lcd. Vista would not boot. Showed a "Choose..." window - Safe Mode, Last
Known Good, etc. Absolutely would not boot. Swapped out the Viewsonic for
the Acer and booted up as if nothing ever happened.
How do I get this O/S to accept another monitor? Will it do this when I
replace a keyboard, or add a wireless mouse?

All LCD monitors use fixed pixel digital technology.
Some only have analog/VGA interfaces.
Others have both a analog/VGA interface and a digital/DVI interface.
Try using the VGA interface on the Viewsonic instead of the DVI interface.
Also make sure using safe mode that your PC desktop resolution is set to the
native resolution of your Viewsonic monitor.

Windows probably boots, but you just can't see anything, because the
video card driver is looking for an analog monitor.

Does Vista boot with the digital monitor in Safe Mode" (F8 on boot)? If
so, boot into Safe Mode, uninstall the video card driver, then reboot
normally and let Windows reinstall the video card driver.

JW, it doesn't matter if monitors use Etch-A-Sketch technology - the fault here is the Vista O/S. I swapped the ACER to my server running XP, and it fired right up to the desktop with no problems. Safe Mode, etc becuase I replaced a monitor? Gotta be kidding.....

with the old monitor, change to the standard VGA driver and 800 x
600 resolution. shut down. replace the monitor with the new one.
turn the machine on. what happens?
