Vista want to scan and fix flash drive message

Every time I plug my flash drive into my computer, vista keeps asking me if
I want to scan and fix it. Every time I let it scan the drive, it never
finds anything wrong with it. How can I make it stop asking me every time I
plug the flash drive in?

Its not Vista, that's you virus protector. Open the VP you have installed
and look at its preference setting

As far as I have been able to find, you cannot make this stop. It is
irritating as heck though, isn't it?

I have heard some suggestions that this has something to do with not
following safely remove hardware best practices, but no matter what I
do I get the message.

On the fortunate side, I have had no ill effects by running the scan
and fix (other than the wasted time) or not running the scan.

I wish the winners at Microsoft would allow us to toggle some of their
"features" on or off.
