flash drive recognition issue

I have been using the same 3 flash drives for over a year and previously
every time I plug one into a usb port , it is recognized by my pc and I can
click on the drive and open files. Recently, when I click on the drive
nothing happens. I then have to use windows explorer to open the drive.
Anyone know what might be happening and how to make it work the old way
again? Thanks.
