vista ultimate upgrade

i have windows basic 64 bit installed and i have tried to use a windows vista
ultimate upgrade cd which shows that everything has installed properly in
reality it hasnt. i know this because at the bottom of the log on screen it
says home basic. why does it not work. i have tried installing it multiple
times but it still doesn't work?

How are you trying to install the upgrade?
That info would help!!!
Is the upgrade Ultimate DVD 32bit or 64bit.
It has to be 64bit version to work with 64bit Basic
