Vista Ultimate Retail Box 64bit edition

Hello,

I currently own a P4 3Ghz machine (32bit) and am planning on upgrading my
machine this summer. I would like to install Vista Ultimate on this box in
the mean time though and am wondering if this 64bit version of the program I
purchased will install on the 32bit box. I know it will work with the new
system but in the mean time i would like to be able to play with Vista on my
older system until I can afford my upgrade.

Recap: Will my 64bit Vista Ultimate Box edition be able to install on my
older 32bit PC?

No. You must have 64 bit hardware to install Vista 64 bit.

Vista Ultimate comes with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions in the same box.
Your key will work for both.

Interesting that I recieved conflicting replies. Do we have anything to
substantiate either answer?

Thanks!

I don't think they are conflicting as much as we both interpreted your
question a little differently.

pvdg42 correctly stated that x64 Vista will not install on older non-x64
capable hardware.

However, I deemed that to be of little importance since both versions come
in the same Ultimate retail box. Only if you buy the OEM version will you
specify 32-bit or 64-bit. In which case the point is moot since you aren't
allowed to move an OEM version to another computer.

NO. To be able to install and run the 64 bit os your computer has to be 64 bit enabled. That means you need a CPU\Motherboard that is 64 bit compatible

Conflicting?
Actually, my response directly addressed your specific question about
hardware support. LaRoux added value by pointing out that you will get media
for both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions in your retail package, thus
allowing you the option of installing the *32 bit* version on your 32 bit
hardware, then later installing the 64 bit version on your new 64 bit
hardware (after removing Vista from your old PC, of course.)

They are not conflicting. One is just reiterating the fact that you will
not need a new product key to switch to x64 when you get a new machine. All
you will need is the x64 dvd.
