Vista 32bit VS 64bit

I have bought a new HP computer with windows vista 64bit. Now I found out
that my older euipment and programs don't work on it. I am considering to
exchange it for a vista 32bit system.

What are your thoughts between 32bit and 64bit (apart from the point that
some people think Vista does not work at all...)?
Should I return this computer?

Hi,

If your older hardware and applications don't run under 64-bit, then by all
means switch to 32. It simply makes sense. Older hardware simply may not
have signed 64-bit drivers available, and if they aren't by now they likely
never will be. As to applications, you could try compatibility mode, but
that will not alleviate the hardware issue. In either case, the applications
will not be able to make use of any extra memory capacity that the 64-bit
version can offer, so there's no reason I can think of not to make the
switch.

Contact HP or the vendor who sold you the computer and ask if you have
"downgrade rights". If you have Vista Business or Ultimate you have
downgrade rights to XP, but you should at least have downgrade rights to
Vista 32-bit. Some of the vendors like Wal-Mat have a no questions asked
return policy. If you are still within the time period that might be less
trouble than downgrading the computer to a system that works for you.

Microsoft is pushing manufacturers to pre-install Vista 64-bit because it is
"better". You may have trouble finding an equivalent computer with 32-bit
preinstalled. If you like the computer I would recommend asking about
downgrade rights first. You might not be able to find an acceptable one
with 32-bit.

You just did, granted in someone else's thread, you should start your own
thread for any questions you may have.

What newsreader or software are you using to read and reply to these posts?

With Outlook Express or Windows Mail you would merely hit the new post
button or select new message from one of the drop down menus.

Yes, where do I start a thread? I did not see any 'button or area' to
start a new thread. I have a question about my exported emails. I
created a 'download' new file on my desk top and exported emails to them
and I want to transfer the files to a CD and it states on transfer:
"copy file without properties - the file has properties that cannot be
copied to new location. Soooo there's something I'm doing wrong (first
time hahaa). I think I need to export directly to final CD but I have
about 8 files with many emails I'd like to store on final disk.
You don't have access to start a new thread.
