vista ultimate printing problems

Hi,
initially, I was having problems printing PDF files - acrobat would crash &
I was unable to print my files.
this has now escalated to the point where my Outlook 2007 crashes when i try
to print emails.
yes, i can still print office 2007 .xls, .doc & ppt files - at this point.
my printers are on a networked PC running XP.
tonight, I uninstalled the printers from my Vista laptop & attempted to
reconnect the printers - i am still waiting for Vista to connect them.....
has anyone got any thoughts, suggestions, helpful hints or lateral thoughts
to help me?? this is extremely frustrating & as i use the machine in a SOHO
environment, it is starting to impact financially on my business.
HELP!!

OK, the way printer sharing works is that you install all the printers
drivers on the host printer....so, on the XP printer server, did you install
the vista drivers?

Then, when you connect to the printer on the xp machine from your vista
machine, the vista machine installs the drivers from the xp machine. Vista
may have the built in printer drivers, but if the drivers from the
manufacturer are newer, install them as instructed and see if that improves
things.

Also, on the PRINTER properties Advanced tab, are you printing spooled jobs
immediately, or after spooling?

gerry,

the latest drivers are installed & the driver files are on both machines.
spooler settings are set for immediate printing.

my concern is that the printing was working & then stopped. I do not
believe it is a driver problem because the problem is escalating and is also
not effecting all progams - only adobe reader & outlook 2007 - at this
time.....

while your comments are helpful to someone who is having problems setting up
printers in the first instance, it is slightly off track to my problem.
