Vista: Temporary Internet Fles not showing, now problems

Suzanne

Hello,

Am writing to ask, as the subject line states, why the files from various
web pages will load into my Temporary Internet Files folder, yet be 100%
invisible. Never had this occur in past versions, if there was a particular
image or file I wanted from a page that was not accessible via the numerous
ways possible (right clicking to save, clicking and dragging the item up to
the address line in the browser, etc.), I could always count on my being
able to access them via the folder.

For whatever reason, a moment ago I went to check for a file using the Tools
Browsing History Settings > View Files method, and even though the
Properties showed 775 files plus "x" amount of folders (don't recall on the
exact amount right now), none of the files or even folders were viewable. I
even tried switching to allow hidden files to show, refreshed, and it
remained the same.

Then I had a brunette moment (so I don't upset any blondes out there!) and
for some reason, I decided to change the attributes (read only, hidden) to
see if that helped, and when it didn't uncover the files, I changed it back.
Not smart. Now whenever I try to access any web page, a window pops up with
"File Download - Security Warning" in the title bar, then in the body of
this window it has -- Name: navcancl - Type: Unknown File Type, 2.64KB -
From: ieframe.dll, with the "Save" or "Cancel" buttons. Tagged onto the
bottom is a warning from my Anti-Virus program stating "The file you are
downloading cannot be opened by the default program. It is either corrupted
or it has an incorrect file type. As a security precaution, it is
recommended that you cancel the download."

Okay, so what;s up with the Temporary Internet files, and now more
importantly, with my Internet Explorer? Is there something as with Win 98SE
where you can right click through the control panel on the browser to run a
fix on it?

Thank you so much in advance for your kind assistance to these questions!

Try moving the "Temporary Internet Files" folder to a different location,
and then move it back to the default location. For example, from under
C:\Users\(You)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows to
C:\Users\(You)\AppData\Local\Temp, and then back to
C:\Users\(You)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows . This will essentially
create a new Temporary Internet Files folder.

To do this, though, don't use Windows Explorer, but go to IE7 > Tools >
Internet Options. On the General tab, click
on Settings, under "Browsing history". Then click on Move Folder...

Now why didn't I think of that? LOL! Thank you very much for sending the fix
for my browser problem, I was just frustrated and couldn't figure out what
the problem was, although it probably had something to do with me altering
the properties. *g* Live and learn, something I'm still doing after a
"short" eleven years online. Considering how fast things change, and how
much, it's not much time at all!

If you, or anyone else, come up with an answer concerning the files being
completely hidden, please let me know.

Thanks again! No fun being browserless!

Suzanne
