Vista SP1 - Not installing

V

Vincent

I downloaded Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft website. The installation has
gone smoothly up until this point.

The screen is stuck on "Installing Service Pack: Stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete.
Do not turn off the computer." It's been like this for easily over 2 hours
now. It's obvious that it's not doing anything.

I just need to know what to do. Do I just power it off? Use some kind of
button combination? Or should I just yell at it some more?

Do not turn-off your computer at this point.
If the SP1 installation does not progress in
another hour or so, contact Microsoft support.

Check out my post-same problem. I finally had to reboot and a system
restore...

After the system restore, I no longer can see my network connections...the
"network connection wizard" cannot detect any networks..despite the fact I am
using it now..I have to connect by clicking on an internet application...and
then I get to log onto the net..I cannot see any updates in my "viewed
installed updates" folder..

The strange thing is all of that stuff is there when I log on as an ADMIN!!!!

The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the computer restarts
when you try to install an update in Windows Vista

The OP said it's already been OVER 2 HOURS. So, our resident MVP is
suggesting, what? Wait 3 hours, 4 hours, 5 hours? Now, that makes for a
productive machine, doesn't it.

Cheers.

Step 1: Download Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Standalone Installer

===================================================

1. Download Windows Vista SP1 from the link below according to your System
Type:

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista 32-bit (Size: 434.5MB)

http://download.microsoft.com/downl...4c056d4c34d/Windows6.0-KB936330-X86-wave0.exe

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista 64-bit (Size: 726.5MB)

http://download.microsoft.com/downl...c1f58727b8b/Windows6.0-KB936330-X64-wave0.exe

2. Please save it on the Desktop.

Step 2: Install Windows Vista SP1 in Clean Boot mode

========================================

Please disable all startup items and third party services when booting to
avoid conflict when installing Vista SP1:

1. Click "Start", type: MSCONFIG in the search box and press Enter.

Note: Please click "Continue" if the "User Account Control" window pops up.

2. Click "Services", check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click
"Disable All" (if it is not gray).

3. Click "Startup", click "Disable All" and click "OK".

Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup
programs from loading at startup. This shouldn't affect the system or other
programs. You can manually run these programs later.

4. Please double click the downloaded Windows Vista Service Pack 1
Standalone Installer and follow the instructions to install Windows Vista
SP1.
