When I try to install that driver, I get an "install package failure" with
the following message: "Could not load file or assembly 'MOM.Implementation,

That was my first advice. I then recommended NOT getting hard ware drivers
from Windows Update but to get them from the hardware manufacturer's web
site. Do you disagree?

MB and video drivers ... I agree.

Monitor, printer, sound drivers you can get from WU , especially if you just
need basic functionality without all the extras.
I use WU drivers for my printer, HP, cause I don't need all the fancy
extras.
Opinion. You do know the difference between an opinion and a fact or do
you?

Yes. Vista is better than ubuntu ... FACT.

What you have is a halucenation of an opinion, formed..shall we say ...
under the influence.
"Better" is an opinion. Got any facts?

What's it called, Palin's Distro?
Moose ... add an S, drop the M

Um, "better" is an adjective.

It's spelled "hallucination" and anyone who knows basic English can
spell that and knows that adjectives are opinions, not facts.

Oh well, I tried to inject some humor but you didn't get it. I don't
care for SUSE, sorry, and, yes, that's an opinion. I'm happy with Ubuntu
and can hardly wait to see the new stuff that it will have next month.
For Windows, you have to wait years.

I skipped the spell check.
Wasn't aware of being in a Spelling B.
You can play a spelling game, if you wish.

The new stuff next month for ubuntu is that the next "build" will start with
an I.
Insatiable Iguana , or some such nonsense.

Being happy with Vista ... I can wait a decade.

Not to jump in here ... but with a Dell, you may want to check Dell Support
page.
Some hardware drivers are Dell specific with their systems.
From Dells site, you could get BIOS updates and hardware drivers for every
device on your system.
They used to have a service tag code that you could enter and would bring up
your exact model as built.

I was correcting you when you state that "better" is a fact but you
sidestepped that. I wonder why?

Not going to go for Windows 7 that MS is rushing out due to the failure

I got rid of that about two seconds after I installed Ubuntu. I agree
that the default wallpaper and theme suck big time. Fortunately, it can
be changed without any problems and in seconds.
What's an Ibex ?

A wild mountain goat.

Heh, not even close.

"Planning for Ubuntu 8.10ish - The Intrepid Ibex
Mark Shuttleworth mark at ubuntu.com
Wed Feb 20 15:08:04 GMT 2008

With Hardy now past feature-freeze it's time to start to plan
features that are being lined up for inclusion after Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
is released in April.

And so I'd like to introduce you to the Intrepid Ibex, the release
which is planned for October 2008, and which is likely to have the
version number 8.10.

During the 8.10 cycle we will be venturing into interesting new
territory, and we'll need the rugged adventurousness of a mountain
goat to navigate tricky terrain. Our desktop offering will once
again be a focal point as we re-engineer the user interaction model
so that Ubuntu works as well on a high-end workstation as it does on
a feisty little subnotebook. We'll also be reaching new peaks of
performance - aiming to make the mobile desktop as productive as
possible.

A particular focus for us will be pervasive internet access, the
ability to tap into bandwidth whenever and wherever you happen to
be. No longer will you need to be a tethered, domesticated animal -
you'll be able to roam (and goats do roam!) the wild lands and
access the web through a variety of wireless technologies. We want
you to be able to move from the office, to the train, and home,
staying connected all the way.

The Intrepid Ibex will take shape at our next Ubuntu Developer
Summit, an open event to which members of the Ubuntu community,
upstream communities, corporate developers and other distributions
are all invited. That summit takes place in beautiful Prague, in the
Czech Republic from 19th - 23rd May 2008. Together we will draw up
detailed blueprints for Ubuntu 8.10. Please join us there to help
define the Intrepid Ibex:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UDS-Intrepid

Ubuntu 8.10 will be our ninth release, and the fourth anniversary of
the first release - 4.10. In those four years, Ubuntu has grown as a
project, an ethos and a community. The Ubuntu community have worked
to set the benchmark for open, inclusive, and collaborative
development processes. We have open specifications, open governance
structures and a willingness to empower everyone to make their
unique contribution to the success of the project.

This has created an extraordinary diversity in participation; a
depth of talent including packagers, programmers, translators,
writers, testers, advocates, technical support, artists and many
others. Those contributions come as much from the corporate world -
Canonical and other companies that have embraced Ubuntu as a core of
their offering - as from a huge number of individual professionals.
It is this combination of expertise and perspectives that makes it
such a pleasure for me to be part of this project, and I thank all
of you for your continued passion, participation, and energy.

Hardy is our best development cycle yet, delivering on our promise
of reliability and stability for the Heron. We must stay focused on
that goal. To the extent that you have a brilliant idea for the
future, you now have a peg to hang it on - the Intrepid Ibex. When
the Hardy Heron has taken flight we will engage fully with the Ibex.
Give it horns!"

Mark

Oh, I'll use it.

Sight unseen, eh? A true fan boy.

I don't care what they call it. I care what it does. Do you know what

View, perspective .
As in the wonderful Aero desktop.

You should watch Planet Earth in HD ... see that White Tiger ( some kind of
snow lepoard or another) eat that Ibex.
Pretty much whats been happening to linux for a while.

Where are ubuntu numbers going up ?
There are no sales figures.
I've downloaded ubuntu 4 times, kubuntu 2 times, yet no longer even have it.
That's 6 "download counts" that don't count.

Not sure if website hits could always distinguish between ubuntu and linux
(some people don't use the ubuntu branded firefox)

Pulling numbers from your rear ?

Hi just to let people know i got an internal power error however the error
codes started with STOP: 0x000000A0 (0x00000101, 0xc0000007 ... etc, ) Vista
would not boot, it would blue screen with the internal power error on every
boot (even with last known good config used)

I've read a lot of people complaining about sidewinder joysticks and vmware
or wireless keyboards (which may also cause the problem). In my instance it
was a usb device causing the fault but none of the aforementioned devices. I
tracked it down to my Canon MP510 printer. It was plugged in via usb but the
power lead had come out of the back of the device. As soon as i plugged the
power back in to the printer my machine booted fine.
