Acer laptop won't start after vista sp1 install

I installed vista sp1 RC last night and when it restarted the laptop wont
start windows vista home premium and gives the error message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

Technical Info:

Stop 0x0000007B (0x82c03ba0, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I am able to get in to the repair program but all attempts to do a system
repair and system restore make no difference, i even tried using the complete
restore from a back up but it can't find the back up i have on my external
had drive. There are no option to set back to factory settings.

How do i set it back to factory settings? or fix this problem as i don't
have the cd to install it again(it came with the computer). i have a back up
of all my files on an external hard drive, so it dosn't matter if every thing
needs to be wiped.

Refer to your computer manual or to Acer's website for instructions as
to how to return your computer to factory condition.

If it's new and still within it's exchange/refund period, I'd advise you
to get a refund.

Google for "VHP - KB905866 breaks Windows restore" for my experience
with an Acer laptop and Vist home premium.

Good luck.

What do you mean by you were "able to get it to the repair program?" What
repair program? Is it a *safe mode*?

Please, specify. it is important.

if you are able to boot it to a safe mode with Internet you should not worry
at all. You just have to follow some steps. if you are unable to boot it to
safe mode, you should come back and ask this question.

Also, SP1 is extensively discussed on MS TechNet. It is a forum. This is the
link:

http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=1992&SiteID=17

I hank it should be open to general public and you can post your question
over there. The entire forum is Vista SP1 related.

I just did a full text search of the forum on your behalf with various
fragments of your error message. I came up empty handed. It may be that
nobody has ever ran into a similar problem, or perhaps you had something
really strange installed on your computer before?

Anyhow, don't despair. You can get your system back.

You have your important stuff backed up. GREAT!
Restore your computer to the factory condition. Wait for the official SP1
release.

SP1 RC is basically still "BETA' so therefore is still in the testing stage
problems may occur, and still for testing purpose, uninstall SP1 RC, unless
you are prepared for testing on a test PC, otherwise follow link provided by
'AlexB' and report problems.
