Vista Sleep

I have an Acer Aspire 3000 series Notebook and have installed Vista Home
Premium on it.
Everything seems to be working fine and I am happy with Vista so far,
however when I press the power button to make it Sleep the screen goes black,
all buttons become useless (including the power button) and nothing will wake
it up. In fact the laptop never fully goes into sleep, the hard drive still
spins and it is still connected to the network.
However if i disable the integrated Broadcom Wireless Adapter (I have a
wireless network always connected) then sleep works perfectly.
I've tried updating drivers, but windows says I have the latest ones. I've
tried uninstalling the drivers so that windows puts its own generic drivers
on, these did not work however and i used system restore to get my wireless
working again.
I've also been into the advanced settings and changed the minimal power
option to disable without any luck.
I have also set the media sharing option to "allow the computer to sleep"
and this also doesn't work.
Sleep will only work if i completely disable my wireless, and I would really
hope I don't need to do this all the time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you applied ALL of the below settings?
Go to Change Advanced Power Settings.

Set hard drive to turn off a minute or 2 before sleep.

Set Hybrid and Hibernate modes to "Off"

Under USB settings select "Disable"

Under Multimedia select "Allow ....."

I have applied all the settings you advised with no luck. When my network
adapter is on, the laptop still crashes.

I have checked windows update and the drivers are the latest, I can't find
the drivers from the official Broadcom site but I downloaded a third party
program called Driver Detective which also said that it is the latest driver.
Thanks for all the help you are giving , I appreciate it and hope we find a
solution soon.

I installed the program at the link and it did not make any difference. Just
to say that my laptop is not a HP but a Compaq. I'm not sure if that matters
but it didn't work. Thanks for your constant replies.
