Vista won't sleep

I've Vista Home Premium on a Toshiba P200 Laptop and here's the
tummy-turning experience I'm having.
I've set the power options for the computer to "go to sleep" in 20 minutes.
I've gone to the Power Options then "change power options" and there have set
the "sleep" for twenty minutes.
The weird and wonderful thing is, if I reboot the computer, this will work
for say, three or four times, then it doesn't after that.
I've set the "when sharing media" in the Multimedia Settings to "prevent
idling to sleep" - but again, it refuses to work until I reboot the machine.
Then again, it will work several times and then it doesn't.
Can anyone give me a pointer in how to set this unit to sleep when left
unattended after so many minutes. Thanks.

Machine sleep good.

Bob, thank you for the reply. A long while back, I had the Multimedia
settings set at "allow computer to sleep" and someone on another forum said
to put it to "prevent idling to sleep" and all worked well for a while.
Before I read your note, I set it back to "allow computer to sleep" and it
seemed to work ok. Any idea as to why this worked and did not and now does?
Anyway, I took the rest of your advice and set the hard drive and usb to what
you said to do. As of right now, it works ok.

Igotsaurus - I find that Maxwell's Silver Hammer coming down on the head of
the computer only breaks the lid. If you've got something extra to add
though, I'm quite willing to give you a deaf ear. Thanks ever so much!

My suggestion would be because Vista is a poorly programmed,
unpredictable, POS that has known problems in power/sleep management -
but you could search for a more technical explanation.

Use a bigger hammer. The 2 lb sledge is good for long therapy
sessions, while the full 15 lb sledge is good to just "get it out" and
move on.

I would also go to Toshiba's website and make sure
that you have the latest video driver(s).

Have the lastest video drivers. Strange thing about this is --- it will work
(go to sleep) 5 or 6 times in a row - then suddenly (and without warning too)
it won't go to sleep.

Obviously this is another one of them there stickers that seems to have most
stumped, even Toshiba or Microsoft.

If anyone can come up with a 25 pound answer, please send it over this way.
(Remember - if you were not here, in all likelyhood, you all would be
somewhere else)

powercfg -lastwake

to see if anything interesting is shown.
