Vista Shutdown problem

When I shut down my PC it automatically restarts, and thens says that Windows
has not been shutdown properly. This means that I struggle to close down my
PC. Any ideas? Thanks for any help you can give.

check the event logs in the shutdown section to see if it points to a problem.

Sorry to be a pain, but do I find the events log in the event viewer? And how
do I find the shutdown section in it?
