Vista Screen Blanks

I recently installed Vista 64 bit and whenever I do something that it
questions; it blanks my screen and comes up with a box asking me to validate
my request. I don't mind the request to validate but the blanking of my
screen is very irritating. It even blanks the screen before allowing me to
use the magnifying glass. Is this normal is it something in my setup or
equipment? Can it be changed to stop the blanking of the screen or even
shutting off the validation requests? Thanks for any help.

yes, the blanking of the screen is actually part of the security feature.
It's called Secrue desktop prompting.

Secure Desktop Prompting

In Windows Vista you will notice that, by default when User Account
Control prompts appear, the rest of the screen is darkened. The prompts are
being displayed in the Secure Desktop mode. The same mode you see when you
log on or press CTL+ALT+DELETE. Displaying User Account Control elevation
dialogs on the Secure Desktop helps protect the user from unknowingly
allowing a program to run with elevated privileges without their consent.
Without this protection, it is much easier to create malware that tricks the
user into approving an elevation request prompt that they really wanted to
deny. The Secure Desktop helps protect against this because other software
running on the machine is blocked from interacting with the user's
interface.

Thanks for your quick response. Is there any way to either eliminate it or
at least limit the amout it darkens. Mine goes completely black not just
dimming.

Thanks again,

That sounds a bit odd, have you updated you're video drivers ?

The only way I know to turn off the SDP is to turn off teh UAC, which
removes Vista main Security feature. I run with it off, because I'm one of
those "Runs with Scissors" types

You might try googling Secure Desktop Prompt and see if anything has been
listed as a way of disabling it,without turning off the UAC

Dale: Thanks for your response. I'll check for an update. I updated it a
couple of weeks ago but that was when I was running XP. I'll check for a
Vista update on ATI's site.
