Vista Release Question #2

C

Colin Barnhorst

Darrel is convinced that this only works when booting a Vista x64 dvd and
the host OS is x86. I still wonder how it goes with Win2k and Vista x86
Business and Ultimate, though.

Thanks Darrell, nice to have you back.

It seems a quick summary of Vista upgrade versions (PK) is: If it REQUIRES
a clean installation (Win2000, XP X64 and any 32-bit to 64-bit) you MUST
install from the DVD. If you have the OPTION of a clean install or upgrade,
you MUST do the installation from the desktop.

John, I haven't thrown him the ringer yet, and that would be, what happens
with a system already dual booting Win2k Pro on one volume, XP Pro on the
other, and I want to use an upgrade edition pk to go from the XP Pro to
Vista Home Premium? Will I get that flexibility? LOL

Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

Hello Colin,
I booted from a 32-bit Windows Vista DVD earlier and used the upgrade key.
I reported that I I was not allowed to proceed, I was told I had to be
inside an existing OS to install.
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]
