Vista RC1

Does anyone know what's going to happen to people running RC1 when the
official version is released. Will we be "grandfathered" into Vista for
free? Will we have to pay to keep Vista? Or, will it simply say we must now
revert to XP? I tried to search, but there's not much on Vista out right now.

Hi,

You can either purchase the final release (there is no grandfathering), or
go back to XP. Your copy of RC1 will expire later this year and become
unusable.

No. You will need to purchase a full edition of Vista. You may be able to
perform an upgrade-in-place using a full edition product key, but RC1 is
pre-release software so it will not qualify for upgrade edition pricing. I
suggest that you use the Windows Easy Transfer wizard to save your files and
settings and then do a fresh install of Vista. If you do an
upgrade-in-place you must use Vista Ultimate since that is what RC1 is. If
you did not plan to purchase Ultimate then you will need to use the WET
wizard followed by a clean install of the edition you buy.
