Vista & Quicken 2004 won't start

Hi there,

Please read all the posts it came with a machine I have bought and I will be
keeping XP for quite a while, but like many others I to would want to use
Vista once I'm sure all my programs will work or there are reasonably priced
upgrades to make those programs work.

Many thanks, Tim.

Hi there,

Yes I did try loading as Administrator that didn't work but I might try
loading it onto the C:\ and not in Program Files to see if that works.

We have MS Money 2006 which we have never used and that does load on Vista
and we can transfer our Quicken 2004 file's into it but I like Quicken.

I'll let you know if I get any joy if not I have previous versions of
Quicken but not sure if I can convert Quicken 2004 file format to Quicken
2000 file format?

Many thanks, John.

I'm not sure either. I did try upgrading to later versions, but after 2000
they dropped support for VAT (or changed how it worked, I forget now),
either way it was a backward step IMO, I always used a backup of my accounts
to test the later versions, so never had to downgrade the files when I moved
back to 2000. Take a backup of your files and try it.

If this were how everyone thought, we would still be running DOS. Sometimes,
you have to dump some old technology in order to move forward.

I've been trying for a week to get MS Money 2007 Deluxe to work on Vista Home
Premium. Task Manager always reports "program not responding" for about 20
minutes after I open a file. Then, it finally lets me work with it. It is
"glacial".

I was beginning to think about trying Quicken, but now see that it won't
work w/ Vista either.

You would think that MS would make some of their own stuff work with Vista.

I regret going out on the "bleeding edge" with another Windows upgrade. I
shoulda learned after Win 3.1, 98, ME, & XP, etc. etc.

Hi there,

We seem to only have Microsoft Money 2005 available here in the UK I have
thought about moving to that but not sure if it is compatible with Vista and
can I transfer Quicken XG-2004 files across to MS Money I know you can
.....

i have the 'trial/download' version of Money 2007 on my new Vista (Home
Premium) box because trying to install Quicken was a disaster and I gave
up-- Money should run on your machine--

I have had no problems running Quicken on Vista RC2, which is the version
right before RTM. What are your problems?

Hi Tim,

I'm having the same problem with Quicken as I'm sure that everyone is. I
stupidly upgraded my desktop and laptop to Vista before trying out any other
software I had, as I believed some of the publicity that 'what ran on XP
should run on vista'. I should have known better as I have experienced these
upgrade problems in the past. It always seems that Microsofts main priority
is their USA customers and the rest of the world are secondary. I do
appreciate that Intuit write their programs in a different language and that
they should conform to Microsoft and their aspirations to rule the world of
PC. This knowledge does not help me as I run my business billing, tax and vat
from Quicken 2004 XG. I have looked at MSmoney but it is second rate compared
with the tasks quicken can perform, and it is also very USA biased. I think
you are right sticking to XP. I think I'll be forced to return to XP and
write off the rediculously priced Vista until someone brings out a UK
equivalent of Quicken XG that will run on Vista.
This is only one of my Vista problems, and has certainly turned me off any
future MS upgrades.
Maybe MS will bring out a patch if enough people complain, but I won't hold
my breath.
