vista oem

Can I change the motherboard + cpu before I activate?

I installed vista premium oem on new build, but I'm not happy with the
performance so I'm thinking of changing it to a higher specification.

I have 27 days left to activate and have been online and got some updates for vista. I wondered if microsoft will think it is on two machines if I change the motherboard and cpu.

You have not activated it yet, so don't worry. The attachment to your PC
happens once you activate it.

If you need extra time before activating you can extend the 30 day
trial period with a simple command line instruction.

See "Extending The Windows Vista Grace Period to 120 Days" at

http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000778.html

Note that << simply start a command prompt as Administrator, >> is
critical and for me the easy way is to navigate through START /
Programs / Accessories / Command Prompt and right mouse click on that
last menu item Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.

BTW THose directions on how to get to Command Prompt and run it as an
adminsitrator are from the Classic menu structure that you can select
if you right mouse click on the START button, select Properties and
then change to Classic Menu -- I don't know how you do it with the
VISTA menu structure! There must be a way .....

Great tip Hugh. Didn't realize you could do that. That wins the "Tip of the
Day" award in my book.

Here's some other ways to get to an admin command prompt....

(1) [Windows key] then type 'cmd'. Hold down 'ctrl' and 'shift', before
pressing enter

(2) Create a shortcut to cmd.exe. Right-click it and choose 'Run as
administrator'

(3) Create a shortcut to cmd.exe, and
Right-click shortcut > Properties > Advanced (on shortcut tab) > Run as
administrator

(4) Create a shortcut to cmd.exe, and
Right-click shortcut > Properties > Compatability > Run as administrator

I'm not entirely sure what the difference is between (3) and (4) though,
although there probably is one.
