Vista Networking error - Can see PC but cannot access it

D

Darshil

Hi

I have two PCs. One has Vista Ultimate and the other has Vista Business. I
have connected them through a switch. In either of the PCs, under 'Network'
folder, I can see the other PC. But when I double click on one PC, I get the
following message:
\\<pc name> not found.

I have turned on the following:
Network discovery
File Sharing
Public Folder sharing
Printer Sharing (although I don't have any printer)

I have turned off the following:
All firewalls
Password protected sharing
Media sharing

I have shared the root drive as shown on microsoft website. I tried to
acceses PC like \\<IP address>. But I still can't access it.

Please advise how I can access the root drive.

Thanks...

Hi
In Vista you can not Access the Root Drive C:\ since it is protected as a
security measure.
If you need more flexibility than the Public Folders, make a new Main Folder
under C:\ and build a system of sub Folders as you see fit.
You can give a Total Read/Write, Co-Owner ship Permission to the New Folder
and manipulate the whole thing till your heart content.
In general.
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,
http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is
allowed to be shared.
