Not an answer to your problem, but may I ask why, as you have Outlook
included in your version of Office 2007, you are using Windows Mail instead?

Just how did you "delete" Outlook? Programs should never be deleted
but always properly uninstalled.

The reason you get that error is because Vista has not been told that
Outlook is no longer handling the mail protocols.

Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from
the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item:
"Set your default programs."
After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on Windows
Mail. If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults"
then fix it by clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.

i could not start a new thread as my popup blocker won't let me but it will
allow me to reply so i chose this one - i sent the below to acer but do not
expect a reply

first i am on a cruising sailboat and will use my new Acer computer to
download weather faxes, do emails and update shiptrak as to my position for
others to find out where i am - i will be doing all of this via hf radio - ie
ham radio - as i will spend a lot of my time off the us shore -
do so i am trying to download several pieces of software from a yahoo users
group - LOADING_WL2K_USER_PROGRAMS -

these are valid programs and are set up to enable a pc to interact with the
internet via hf radio - the problem is the programs use outlook express -
vista uses microsoft mail and they are not compatiable - i tired to figure
out how to download outlook express and could not -- i am not a techie just a
user -
i tried to email microsoft but only got your address when i looked it up in
microsoft mail - then went to their address on vista and my computer just
beeped at me when i tired to create a message to microsoft

i need to contract someone for help

thanks

Outlook Express won't run under Vista.

A different program, named Outlook, will. Versions 2003 and 2007
run well under Vista; versions 2000 and 2002 also run under Vista,
but with some problems. If you want to discuss Outlook, you're likely
to get better answers in a newsgroup meant for Outlook, such as:

microsoft.public.outlook.general

If you want to download Outlook, it comes as part of some, but not all,
of the Microsoft Office packages, available at extra cost.

The vista.mail newsgroup is meant for discussing the email/newsreader
program that comes with Vista, properly known as Windows Mail.

Actually, these should be compatible with Windows Mail also since Windows
Mail is actually Outlook Express under the hood (sadly, minus some of OE's
functionality). The main change for external programs is the file name for
the executable - "msimn.exe" was changed to "winmail.exe". The authors of
these programs shouldn't have much trouble revising them to reflect the new
executable name. Have you contacted any of them for work-arounds? I've
fixed some similar problems by editing the registry entries for external
programs to reflect the name change.

This is probably something you should have tested out before you
left on that cruise. :-(
Scripts that work with Outlook Express are not going to work with
Windows Mail, and OE can't be installed on Vista.
You are probably not in a position to fix this now, but one solution
would have been to set that laptop up for dual-booting between
Vista and XP, or else just wipe it and install only XP.

Virtual PC may work, but I have no experience with it.

Because I am a creature of habit and learned how to use it and like it...and
I also imported all my OUTLOOK EXPRESS contacts and emails into WIN MAIL...

Gary-

I already did what you suggested...but I still cannot send a page by email....
Do I have to do this for each account...I have 4..............

Please advise...

Default Programs works system-wide, so don't repeat it for each account.

I'm not getting a lot of feedback from you. What did Defaults Programs
have to say about Windows Mail?

Make sure Internet Explorer is set as the default browser.
