Vista installation trouble, help please

I have a new motherboard (abit nh-m2sv), X2 +3800 processor, 2 gig pc4200
memory ATI graphics, DVD RW, Maxtor SATA drive, all are suppose to be Vista
ready, but vista either won't install, or installs with BSOD's then will only
run in Safe Mode.

I have tried Home Basic and premium, the same issue, I install my old
faitful XP and it goes straight in.

I have run memtest, all fine, I have removed the gfx card, no change, I have
tried an IDE hdd rather than a SATA no change.

Can someone please help?

What is the error shown at installation? Is this (I assume) a clean
install? What about drivers for that SATA Maxtor hard drive? Are you
starting the install with only the mouse, keyboard and monitor connected?

I have had various error messages

0x0000007f
0x000000D1
0x0000007E

These are at different stages. I can only think it is a compatibility issue
as XP will install, but I need to be running Vista.

If you can run in safe mode and not normal mode you have a driver problem.
Set your computer to not automatically restart in System Properties to get a
better error message. Install the proper video driver in safe or low
resolution startup

I have tried to instal with and without the graphics card (by using the
onboard gfx) and still the same issue

Have you turned off auto restart in system properties advanced so you can
get a better error message, unless you want to go into your mini-dump and
pull it out. I would update to the latest BIOS also. I can't find you mobo
listed anywhere and the slow ram you are using, maybe the BIOS is pre Vista
and needs to be updated
