BSOD when booting DVD with SATA Drives with latest RC

First off, here is my hardware setup:

ABIT ULI M1689 Motherboard
Onboard LAN
Onboard Soundcard
SATA 150 controller
AMD 64 3200+ Socket 939
1 GIG PC4200 RAM (not overclocked)
nVidia GeForce 6800XT
Seagate ST3250820 SATA Drive

When I attempt to boot the Vista DVD, it hangs and then BSODs when it
attempts to load the DISK.SYS file.

If I disconnect the SATA drive and boot up with an PATA IDE drive, it gets
to the installation setup screen.

If I attempt to install from within Windows XP, it does all the installation
and then when it reboots, it BSODs again.

It really looks like the SATA drive is causing issues with Vista no matter
which version I try to install.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

My system:
Gigabyte GA-K8U-939
AMD 64 3200+
2 gb pc3200
ATI 9600 video
onboard sound
onboard lan
Maxtor 250gb sata I

I know others have said that the sata drivers are not needed, but I had to
provide them for my mb or it just wouldn't load. I am on RC2 now and I
haven't had to provide drivers when updating of course, but with the first
Vista Beta install I had to provide the mb sata driver.

How did you install? Did you use XP drivers? The Abit site doesn't have any
vista drivers for SATA.

Did you have to install from within Windows XP and provide the drivers that
way? I cannot get to the installation setup screen if I boot from the DVD.

Thanks!

Ivan, with XP installation, you would put a floppy disk containing sata
drivers into A:, and immediately upon starting the boot to the CD, you would
have to repeatedly hit F6 to get the LOAD DRIVERS portion to come up. It says
it at the bottom of the screen, but goes by so quickly that most will miss
it. You should be able to download the XP drivers for your sata, from the
abit website.

Yes, I used the XP drivers from the mb cd-- I put the drivers on a floppy.

I also installed from within XP. I did a clean install of XP and partitioned
the drive into two partitions during the beginning of the XP installation. I
believe that I chose to do a custom install and pointed the Vista installer
to the second empty partition.

Thanks for the help. I obtained the SATA drivers for my motherboard from the
CD that came with it and it worked! I really hope they get this fixed when
they ship though. It would be a pain to have to install XP first before I
could install Vista.

Thanks again! So far, it works great.
