Vista Installation stops when finalizing

I bought the upgrade version of windows vista home premium to install on my
son HP PC, P4 2,8 Ghz, 1 Ghz RAM, graphics nVidia 5200 128 Mb, running XP.
I've been breaking my head trying to install the vista upgrade. I've tried
different ways but in all of them, after the reboot preparing the "first run"
and after charging the vista installation screen, finalizing the
installation, suddenly it stops.
Any suggestions to solve this?
Thanks.

Hi Jorge,

That "finalizing" step can be exceedingly long - often longer than the
installation itself - as it runs the system through a series of performance
tests. If there is no error message, or the system doesn't lock up, then
it's simply a matter of waiting for it to complete. If it is locking up,
then you probably have a device driver problem at this point (and, sadly,
the Nvidia 5200 originally was a supported card but no longer).
